Hi again!
So we now have 6 languages up and running: English (en) Russian (ru) French (fr) Khmer (kh) German (de) Portuguese (pt)
I still miss the 2 non-digit images which I sent earlier to be translated in German and Portuguese.
One just need to replace the language by the appropriate value and pay attention to the UTC zone as well.
I still need to make that nice page to explain it all !
If you have any further question please let us know.

Hi and thanks!
Well goodies are on the way. I was informed that some teams are starting to receive their packs so it shouldn't be too far away for you neither.
It's nice to see that you have a TV channel as a sponsor: would you mind sharing how you managed to achieve this with other teams? I'm sure a lot of us could learn from you on this one!
Regarding the countdown I have a few comments: Mexico is on UTC-5 so you should replace the current code by this one: <a href="http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/"><img src="http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/countdown/banner1-UTC-5-en.png" border="0" width="190" height="200" alt="Celebrate SFD with us on September 17!"></a>
(see how the image link points to banner1-**UTC-5**-en.png now, this way the banner will change at midnight in your timezone).
I noticed you are resizing the banner so in your case it should be: <a href="http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/"><img src="http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/countdown/banner1-UTC-5-en.png" border="0" width="100" height="110" alt="Celebrate SFD with us on September 17!"></a>
And last, if you want to have a Spanish version you can translate the attached 3 SVG files into Spanish and I'll create the png for you (and give you an updated link). You will need Inkscape to do that.
Thank you and happy preparations!

Dear all,
We've finally put up a countdown banner (190x200) to SFD. Currently
only
in English but we have the abilities to translate it as well.
Since the event is global we have made one banner per existing time
zone
on planet Earth (we're thinking bigger for next year and maybe Mars
and
Neptune support...).
So for example if you're using the current English banner and are located in the UK, you'll be at UTC+1 . The banner direct link for
you
will therefore be: http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/countdown/banner1-UTC+1-en.png
and the code to include in your site: <a href="http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/"><img src="
http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/countdown/banner1-UTC+1-en.png"
border="0" width="190" height="200" alt="Celebrate SFD with us on September 17!"></a>
List of supported timezones is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_time_zones_by_UTC_offset
Full documentation and source files can be found here: http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/CountDown
Should people want to help localize there are already Portuguese and German on the way, you can probably help finish those 2.
Any question please let us know.
We'll let the weekend pass, see what other languages we get done and then official announce the counter, with a nicely design page to integrate in the www website.
Should you want to use a totally different design, we'll need to
modify
the script as there is a language symmetry in the current script
which
will need to be changed.
Any question, please ask!
Thanks and happy SFD preparations!

Quite good response so far and some unfinished artworks: we have French and Russian countdown counters fully operational, and Portuguese, German with in fact only 2 SVG files missing a translation (and then generating the pngs - but we have a script for that now). Cambodian and Chinese versions on the way and hopefully more.
Thanks to linuxmaster, nullix and all the people helping out to make SFD 2011 a great celebration!
Hi there,
Unfortunately our graphics guy went into vacations and I don't have the skills to do the Portuguese translations. Maybe you can tell me the texts you want to see translated, I would say the translation here, and somebody could do the images with the translated text?

Well, we've already had this discussion in the past, but still, is there a good reason /not/ to use http://gmane.org/?
Actually, making a mailing list appear at Gmane is thoroughly simple. There's no (I believe) negative side effects on the infrastructure, and it requires very little assistance from the list's administrators?
? Except for one thing: it'd be nice to have the /verbatim/ mailing list archives uploaded to Gmane. And these archives are only available to the administrators.
So, is there a chance it could be done?

Sorry, what do you need in portuguese?
I'm seding all images in portuguese.
If you want do translate "Software Freedom Day" in portuguese is "Dia da Liberdade do Software".
Best regards
Thank you, that's exactly what I need (those 2 svg files translated).
So Portuguese counter is done. I'm not sure if you want to translate Software Freedom Day as well, this is really something up to the Portuguese community.
Thanks again!

Hi!
Well historically (as in before I joined the SFI board) the Spanish list had planning in its list and I kept the same structure for Portuguese. Those mailing list are here to help team leaders with the planning of their respective events which is surely why there is planning in the name (yes yes.. i also wonder why the English doesn't have planning in its name but I'm sure we can live with a slight irregularity ;-)
We open language mailing based on requests, and this also means we have people able to moderate those list (no one on the SFI board speaks Russian I believe.
So let me reach out the lists admin interface and set up that Russian list today! Are you ok to be added as moderator as well?
And thank you for asking.

One more request: the use of MIME for digests should be made the default for a Russian-language list, as ?Plain? digests seemingly assume ASCII. And there's no Cyrillic in ASCII.
(I've actually had issues with that earlier: one would subscribe to a mailing list, turn the digest mode on, and then be surprised why the coming digests are completely unreadable.)
