In addition to standalone machines, I'd like to have a multi-headed machine: http://linuxgazette.net/124/smith.html and a working sample of the Linux Terminal Server Project: http://ltsp.org/ For the applications, I'd pick some from this list http://www-personal.umich.edu/~lars/Tools/ and have them on each computer, but feature only one or two programs per station with small posters and handouts. Of course, all of that is very, very ambitious. Yo hablo ingles solamente, pero pienso la gente que habla espanol son agradables hablar espanol aqui! :) Well, I only speak English fluently (unfortunately), but I think Spanish-speakers SHOULD be able to speak Spanish on this list. I would hate to exclude anyone from Central or South America because they don't speak English. Recipients can usually tell by the subject line if the message is written in Spanish or English. I can read some Spanish and I'm always trying to learn more, so I usually read them. If you can't read Spanish or don't want to, just delete the emails. I'd rather hit Delete a few times to get rid of Spanish (or Mandarin or French or Arabic...) languages than prevent a whole continent of people from participating in this list :) My $0.02 ;) -Jim Lars D. Saludos a todos del norte de finlandia Me da mucho gusto a leer de actividades en las americas. Es de verdad en comienzo buenisimo de SFD-2006. Yo mismo escribo malamente y dificilamente y largomente la español. Pero leo bastante. Hay muchos otros en la lista quienes no leen nada ni siquiera una palabra. Ellos pueden ayudar mejor si escribamos en inglés lo más que possible y en la misma habremos acercerado en publica grande en el pacífico, america del norte, europa y asia. Es una lista mundial y un proyecto mundial. No es importante que escribamos inglés perfectamente sino escribamos. En lo menos mejoramonos que escribamos ambos la español y la inglés. [SFD-TC] Kia ora from New Zealand

Hi SFD participants, I represent Interface (The Victoria University of Wellington Computer Club). Last year we held events in and around campus as well as acted as a distribution point for the Wellington region for delivery of materials (CD/T-shirts etc). We co-ordinated with members of the Wellington Linux Users group www.wellylug.org.nz and also the New Zealand Open Source Society. As well as our activities on Campus the LUG held an installfest after the day. And we used the day to promote the installfest. We had some sponsorship from Local Business which was co-ordinated through a member of the New Zealand Open Source society - http://www.nzoss.org.nz Our campus activities were very successfull and so were our activities downtown on the day itself. This year we hope to have more participation from the wider community, and be more organised. Holding seminars/presentations and workshops is something I personally would like to held facilitate. To this effect we have setup a mailing list for anyone interested in participating in Wellington region activities. [SFD-TC] Chile/ Tecnocimiento/ hello world :)

Hi all there. Last year, in Chile, coordination ended up more disperse than expected, however, Chilean people carried out some activities, esp. in the southern areas of Chile. This year, SFD should have better results, at least in Latinamerica due to the fact that more people are already aware of FLOSS concepts. Also, this year, there is an interesting Agenda regarding FLOSS events in diff. countries of Latinamerica. It is very nice to hear that ParqueSoft (Colombia) is interested in supporting SFD inititative. AFAIK, 2 people from ParqueSoft (I know they do some interesting stuff but dont know them in FLOSS areas yet, only propietary stuff) are coming to one of the events we are organizing in Chile, Feria de Educacion y Tecnologia Libre 2006 (FET Chile 2006), ion June 20th and 21st. I know it is perhaps too anticipated, but it may be a good chance to promote SFD material among participants of the FET Chile 2006.
