Serious Memory Allocation Strategy Problem in Cache_parse_header()

I'm currently in the process of modifying dillo for use in browsing an http media server (yeah, I know it's httpd abuse, but it's only for a local network and I was running Apache anyhow). At present, this basically involves sending a modified downloads plugin an "execute" command and the MIME type when AbortEntry is true in Cache_process_queue() (the plugin then executes an agent which deals with the URL entirely independent of dillo). (Actually, this is functionality that would be nice in the main branch, albeit with its own plugin and user-selectivity. If there's interest, please let me know.) So far, so good -- it seems to work passably well and it only took a couple of hours. Easy peasey. Unfortunately, the first time I click on a 700M video stream, things go horribly wrong. Seems that Cache_parse_header() attempts to allocate memory for the entire content *before* the header has been checked for viewability (since the dispatcher isn't called until Cache_process_queue()). As it happens, this has been reported as bug 726. The upshot of all this is that when you click on a link, there had better be room for the whole thing in heap even though the content may never be read. Otherwise, glib just gives up and dumps core via g_malloc(). I think I can get around this by doing a Content-Type check in Cache_parse_header(). I'd be happy to provide a patch provided I can come up with a reasonably elegant solution. Any advice would be appreciated.

Mozilla-based browsers (as Galeon, Firefox not sure about Epiphany), most probably will work with them). Dillo has its own (simple) scheme for plugins, and they come in the same tarball as the browser. For instance, bookmarks is a dillo plugin, downloads too and ftp. Even when there's a way to patch Dillo to run Java applets, I'd recommend other browser for Java, and definitively dillo doesn't do Javascript (Java and Javascript are different things). With regard to Realplayer or Gxine or PDF, or mpeg or audio or whatever processable datastream we can find in the web these days, it is not difficult to develop a dillo plugin that handles it to the matching viewer, but it's not currently provided with dillo, and probably you'll have to wait too much for the feature (lack of developers beaing the main cause). Try to get the best of the Dillo browser as it is now, be sure to always use the latest version, and please answer the questions above. I'm a developer! Cheers Jorge.-

Bookmarks

I really appreciate the work put into the bookmarks plugin. However, I hope that this plugin solution is just temporary. Just my opinion, but I find manipulation of bookmarks: renaming, sorting into sections, etc., to be so unwieldy that it is easier to just edit the bm.txt file. Albert

Printing support

Is there any work done related to printing support? Currently, it's the major reason why I'm using mozilla... Also, what is the current status on: Multiple plugins (there is apparently a rumour that dillo only supports one plugin at a time). Cut and paste (Apparently it's working nicely now...) ftp support. (Achieved goals states that this is already here) https support The bookmarks are great! Dillo is truely a very nice browser, and comming nicely! ----- My first post to the list with Ximian Evolution :)

succesfull dillo 0.7.2 compilation

Hi, just reporting an almost succesfull dillo 0.72 compilation (is a linux from scratch machine, so evrthing is up to date). A minor detail i used ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc and the make install part created an /etc/bin with dillo and the bm plugin inside it. that's no problem anyway.
