Hi! Rather concerned not to make matter worse we are wondering what to do for Document Freedom Day. At the end of the day each individual is free to meet with others or not, still we are wondering what would be the proper way to address the issue towards ourselves and towards people we would like to reach. Any suggestion or idea? Thank you. Fred
Frederic, I have been in similar talks with another FOSS community that I am involved with - we are planning our annual meet in Huston. Our contingency plan is to hold our conference by video - run it like the conference, with the same level of preparation, effort and investment. Using this approach, you could organise a Jitsi SFD - that is a great way to showcase free software whilst reaching a wider audience. Run it like a conference, with people on-hand for the day and resources available - you could operate round the clock with global shifts or spotlight a particular region. This way, just a handful of people need to get together in each location so reduce the risks associated with the current global challenge. I can donate the hosting of the Jitsi if needed. SJM

Dear Stuart, That's indeed not a bad idea. Let us discuss internally and see what we could do. Would definitely be interested in the Jitsi offer if we go in that direction. Thank you very much. Fred On 3/4/20 1:46 PM, Stuart J Mackintosh wrote:

Hi again! Considering the situation we're definitely not going to encourage people meeting for DFD or even HFD (April 18th). Now 2 weeks to organize something online is a bit short, and I personally don't feel comfortable talking online. However we would definitely be happy to support and take part in such an effort if someone is willing to lead. Just email us back on the list and we'll see what we can do. Also remember we're covering 24h timezones so we could definitely have something going all over the day and/or in multiple languages (and now that sounds like something really big!... maybe we should start simple though). Thank you to let us know if anymore is interested. Kind regards, Fred On 3/4/20 2:03 PM, Frederic Muller - DFF wrote:

I had not heard of Jitsi, so found: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jitsi https://jitsi.org/what-is-jitsi/ FreeBSD /usr/ports/net-im/jitsi broken on current, building on a release.
