[Planning-en] Introduction and a proposal
If you have received the following through the team-contacts list already I apologise, but I haven't seen it come through so I thought I would try this list. Hi all, Firstly a brief introduction. My name is James Purser and I run a community news site ( http://www.localfoss.org ) which focuses on promoting FOSS communities around the world. I also, along with my wife Karin, produce a weekly online radio programme called Open Source On The Air ( http://www.localfoss.org/Open_Source_On_The_Air ). We are planning a SFD event with a difference. What we would like to do is run a live broadcast that will attempt to talk to SFD teams from around the world. This would be a combination of live interviews and pre-recorded interviews. The aim is to have this show streaming live for those SFD teams who have net access at their events to show that its a global event, as well as help the different regions listen in to what everyone else is up to. I am looking for groups in each region who would be interested in taking part. If you're interested then please let me know, either off list or on, it doesn't matter. If you want to talk to me further about the idea then you can contact me via Skype with the username purserj1977 or you can hop on irc and find me in either #sfd or #localfoss on freenode. -- James Purser Producer/Presenter - Open Source On The Air A LocalFOSS Production http://www.localfoss.org irc: #localfoss on irc.freenode.net
Dear James, This is a wonderful idea and unique way of celebrating SFD. In Kenya we are celebrating it on the 16th of September 2006, under the umbrella of linuxchixafrica,Kenya Chapter. Our Theme is "CAREER DAY" and we would love to be a part of this! Hope to hear from you soon! Kind Regards, On 8/25/06, James Purser <purserj@k-sit.com> wrote:

Hi Judy, Sounds like your group has a rocking event. I would love to include your chapter in the event. I may be going completely blind (which is entirely possible), however I can't seem to find any details about the event you are holding. Yes, here too please James. Can you describe how we'd set up Camorama - e.g. ftp server where? - to feed a video stream through to you? Then I guess we need some messaging system, or 'one big SFD IRC'?.. Here's a preview from our SFD3 suite: http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/gallery/2006/Christchurch

Hi everyone, Okay I was thinking of having an irc meeting for all those who are willing to participate. There is a #localfoss channel which we can use, it just remains to find a time that is good for everyone (given that we have people from UTC+1200 to UTC) Thanks all :) -- James Purser Producer/Presenter - Open Source On The Air A LocalFOSS Production http://www.localfoss.org irc: #localfoss on irc.freenode.net

I say open it up at 12am 16-Sept-06 for whichever timezone gets that wakeup first, and keep it running until 12pm 16-Sept-06 wherever that finally closes - 48 hours in total. Then people can cruise in and out of SFD pix-forum mode as it suits them, and we get a sense of all being on the same world-wide page, for at least one (long) day :) Only SFD could offer such international promise. Thanks James, -- Rik
Just to inform u!!! Our team is prepared to celebrate SFD on 17th of September!!! because most of our volunteers are free on that sunday! 2006/8/31, Rik Tindall <ask@infohelp.co.nz>:

OK. We're running on to 17/9 in Christchurch as well. So that's a 96-hour open video/chat link we need for SFD? - all the weekend, everywhere in the world. - Double the Fun :) All trying to coordinate on a single time would be quite problematic, imho (potential clogging, interrupted event flow..). kia ora (be well / hello, in Maaori NZ), -- Rik
Hi Everyone, I'm leading the Melbourne based Victorian School of Languages Team! [VSL] I would like to have the following statement in as many languages as possible!! If your language can't be easily written in plain text, you could make a screen shot and send me a jpg! What is Software Freedom Day? Software Freedom Day is a global, grassroots effort to tell people about the virtues and availability of Free and Open Source Software. Free and Open Source Software is freely available from the internet, or on CDs and DVDs. You can install it on as many computers as you like, share it with friends, make copies and even join in and help make it better! Why? The Victorian School of Languages teaches: Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Auslan (australian sign language), Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Croatian, Dutch, Filipino (Tagalog), French, German, Greek (Modern and Classical), Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Latin, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Maltese, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Pushto, Russian, Serbian, Sinhala, Slovenian, Somali, Spanish, Tamil, Tigrinya, Turkish, Urdu and Vietnamese! We want to put this note in the school bulletin, and send it to SBS - Australia's multi-lingual broadcast station - so I need this ASAP - by Monday Please!! Thank You!!!!
