Mark Shuttleworth Interview for Software Freedom Day
Last Thursday we received a DVD from Mark Shuttleworth with a 14.5 minute interview using questions that I submitted. My husband, Jan, re-encoded it and reduced it from one gigabyte to 152 megabytes. The questions relate to how he got involved in Open Source, his experience in space, why he decided to start Ubuntu, what the word ubuntu means, and how he feels about the progress of open source and Ubuntu to date. It is now available for download at: http://www.archive.org/details/Mark_Shuttleworth_SFD It took us about 3 hours to upload the file, but your connection may be faster. We think it's an excellent interview. He starts and ends complimenting the work done on Software Freedom Day and wishes us success on this one. It is not "dated" so it will be appropriate for at least a couple of years, or to use as you see fit. It's under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike open source license. If you download it and watch it, please consider going back to that page on archive.org and writing a review. Enjoy! Judy of SFI

Judy, Thanks so much for doing this! And for sharing it! This will be awesome to have for our SFD expo in Chapel Hill, NC. I'd love to have this looping on a screen that people can walk up to between talks. Cheers, -- Cristóbal M. Palmer celebrating 15 years of sunsite/metalab/ibiblio: http://tinyurl.com/2o8hj4

I am planning of showing it as our opening 'talk' in Mawson Lakes, Adelaide, Australia... with something like the following introduction.. --- Welcome I am about to show a video interview with Mark Shuttleworth, which was done in response to some questions sent to him by the great folk at the Software Freedom International, the organisation behind Software Freedom Day. Mark make a lot of money with his South African company Thawte during the dot-com era using Free and Open Source software. He become the first African in space and is the founder of the Ubuntu project, the current version of which we are giving away today. ... Mark Shuttleworth. ---
