SFD: Kitchener: The Working Centre
The Working Centre is holding a Software Freedom Day event in the basement of the 66 Queen Street location of The Working Centre (the most convenient entry is the door off Charles Street). For the event some of The Working Centre staff and volunteers, as well as volunteers from KWLUG, the Kitchener Waterloo Linux User Group, and the University of Waterloo CSC (Computer Science Club) have chipped in to hold workshops, presentations, and demonstrations. Demonstrations will include: Inkscape and Blender Presentations include: Linux for Windows Users, Software Freedom Day: What are We Celebrating, and Reducing Computing Expenses. Workshops include: Intro to Open Education and Open Office We still have a number of topics we were hoping to cover that haven't been filled, including: Discovering and Installing Software in Ubuntu, Don't be Afraid of the Command Line, Why Copyright Matters to You, and Music Making with Free Software. TWC is also planning on holding a Linux install-fest in the Computer Recycling portion of The Working Centre, and we're still actively looking for volunteers to help with the install-fest.
