Hi I wanted to know more about the policies of FSD official website regarding social media. There are two questions: * Why SFD social media account on twitter is not active? It is not leading actor in propagation of SFD. * Why SFD has no official account on Fediverse and in particular on Mastodon? Hi! Thank you for asking. I am not a fan of Social Media. Pockey usually handles our Social Media accounts (though I think I'm supposed to do Twitter...). I really have little interest in Twitter so... that answers question No.1 Now young man (I have no idea really...), over the year we've seen free sotfware social media platforms going up and down. After a while I think we just got tired of switching to whatever was the latest and greatest. Now this is probably a deeper discussion but maybe it is time for us on the board to transition over to a new team of people. Hi y'all, I hope you're well. I don't think that's a personal matter. SFD is to attract people to the concept of software freedom and digital rights so we actually should be active about it. I agree with Mostafa on this matter. Lot of social networks went down and up but it's not a reason to stop using them. Doesn't matter whether something is stable or not, if it's proprietary, we shouldn't use it. At least for the sake of publicity of our belief. Hi all, I like open social media. But if that's our only outlet to promote SFD, we're preaching to the choir. If you want to reach people who aren't knee deep into open source software, you need to be where they are. Doesn't make sense preaching safe sex to an audience committed to celibacy. Doesn't make sense preaching safe hex to an audience commited to digibacy. Secondly, I'm much in favor of the principle of doing: if you think it's important, please do it. If nobody is willing to invest the time into building up the open social media buzz around SFD, If some people are willing to promote SFD on facebook, twitter or even linkedin... great! Especially since everybody in the organization is volunteer... nobody is in a position to set expectations and standards to anybody except to him- or herself. Well social networks are one of the ways of course. Don't get me wrong, I don't plan to have a day for people who already know about software freedom. I and Mostafa are in Iran and Afghanistan and we (with some other friends) are already planning the celebration for the day. I happily will do what I can for sure. I just expressed my opinion about how important it is. And about using Twitter and stuff, I have nothing against people who use it. I won't do anything about it, I just will feel sorry. I think using them is not good but well if it's a way to promote digital rights and software libre, I'm down. I won't use it myself but I won't criticize the decision either.
