I'm fan of The GIMP: for someone who doesn't do graphics or design commonly, but still has to do the casual crop, image editing or poster, I have had gimp in my toolbox for the past few decades, as a tool "easy enough" for me and more powerful than I need it to be. Ah... The elephant on my computer is Inkscape — I absolutely love that one. But I'll pick one little gem out — not sure if it's a graphics program or not, but it most certainly is graphical and you can design with it... so here goes nothing: LeoCAD — the program to create Lego designs.
