Hi, I found that SFD does not have a stable logo but rather a new banner every year. I think the DFD has a much simpler and recognizable logo. The dove. I would suggest that we will create one simple logo, also? This logo we could use in every new SFD. BTW. who did the theme for the SFD wiki? Regards, Thilo

I agree. A stable logo would be good for brand recognition. Sridhar -- Bring choice back to your computer. http://www.linux.org.au/linux
I though the sun on the horizon was pretty recognizable to returning sfd members. It would be interesting to have a logo that catches the eye of newcomers. On Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 5:39 AM, Sridhar Dhanapalan <sridhar@dhanapalan.com> wrote:

Right; I've always seen our "stable" logo as the sun on the horizon. Maybe a good next step would be to develop an SVG combination of sun+horizon+"SFD", or at least to arrive at one definitive SVG sun+horizon that can be used in banners (website & physical), t-shirts, balloons, buttons, and stickers. If we at least settle on one SVG for now, that could keep us consistent with the past while unifying our imagery across all the different places our branding shows up. But if anybody is inspired and can create a different two-color SVG that gets across the idea of "software freedom", let's see it! Hi Thilo, Please check out the new logo experiments I've done here: http://softwarefreedomday.org/Artwork/2009/Logo About learning inkscape, there are dedicated video tutorial sites for that but I haven't really followed one. That's why I'm not claiming to have expertise yet on using Inkscape or The GIMP. Next time, I'll try to update the Downloads and Resources page to include links to these video tutorial sites on The GIMP and Inkscape. Hi all, I like the work and direction it is heading but I think there is too much emphasis on the year "2009". For a branding logo "Software Freedom Day" and "www.softwarefreedom.org" should be more important and larger. The actual date each year is of lesser importance and could be displayed below the logo or not at all. The logo should concentrate on the sun, the hill, "Software Freedom Day" and "www.softwarefreedom.org". This logo, either coloured or black and white, could be used below signature blocks on emails and letters. The black and white logo would stand out when printed on monotone laser printers and could be used with coloured paper, which would reduce printing costs. the font used makes it look more like software so I say it is cool. But what the logo needs is probably sonething that relates to software, so that the logo alone with no text can be identifyable. again it migh be just adding onto the sun and horizon. this is taking the idea from the document freedom day taaht uses a logo that has elements that reflect the _document_ part. Great work Efrain

Nice. btw. somebody suggested to not use /Artwork/* for new stuff. I think one potential problem are more than one domain. We should only advertise one. I think i like http://softwarefreedomday.org/Artwork/2009/Logo?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=SFD09simpleneologo_experiment1v2.png best. Regards, Thilo
