Re: [SFD-discuss] [Info] Doubts about non-free linux distributions flyer
Hi! The notice is not mandatory, we are just asking teams to add it but they should run their event the way they deem appropriate. I think Michael wrote a very good post on where Debian stands. Mike post is here: http://mail.sf-day.org/pipermail/sfd-discuss/2011-September/002068.html Ubuntu falls in the same category (or similar) as Fedora or openSUSE. I really don't think those distributions should be "marked and isolated" but when you preach for software freedom it is important to let people know when you are giving them some hidden non-free bits, or software that will encourage them to install non-free bits. Users need to understand what is happening with the software they are using (and which you may be distributing). I hope this clarifies the issue. Do not hesitate to ask more question if you have any. Posting on sfd-discuss is encouraged. Fred ps: and the form is only half broken. :-/ On 09/16/2011 06:05 AM, Francisco Palm wrote:
Some people are saying in several social networks like identi.ca or twitter that the notifice for non-free Linux distributions(*) is mandatory. It is important a clarification in this regard. Starting with the fact that is not explicitly stated which are those non-free Linux distributions.
I believe this leads to controversy and discomfort in an event that should unite all those who promote free software.
Ubuntu or Debian are non-free Linux Distributions? must be marked and isolated?
