Hi! I guess we had no idea about latex allergy. It's the first time someone is actually mentioning it since I am involved with SFD. The problem with A1 paper posters as we see it is that either they arrive folded in many parts and thus are not very nice once on the wall, or worse, damaged. Maybe we should look at different materials if going this way. New issue for us, let's see what other teams have to add on the topic. On our end we're fairly opened. Thanks. Hi: In Kitchener we received the SFD swag package just in time for our celebrations. The organizers had inflated the balloons and put them up inside and outside Kwartzlab, when I mentioned that one of the expected attendees has severe latex allergies and wouldn't be able to attend with balloons in the room. So there was a mad scramble to take them all down and remove every trace of balloon schrapnel (many got burst). We continued to be worried about remaining latex particles, but she arrived later in the day and everything turned out OK.
Latex allergies are fairly common[1], so my request is to not include latex balloons in the package next year. Maybe replace them with a couple of large A1 posters (1m x 1.6m). Certainly the small posters were very decorative. Or more stickers (with non-latex adhesive). Everybody loves stickers! Or an extra T-shirt. Everybody loves T-shirts! Or buttons - everybody loves buttons too.
