I am totally in support of floss educational programmes and I believe that OO will be the ideal starting point as it is about basic computer literacy and not exceptionally technical aspects. I also think it is very relevant particularly to schools in Zimbabwe. I used to teach at a school where the computers had been donated and came with all the software installed. The school had no connectivity to the internet and therefore we could not activate the M$ Office. If we had knowledge and access to the FLOSS alternative, our situation wouldn't have been desperate I have also managed to install Ubuntu on some few PCs that are used by students at my place of work. The students still use them for Internet access (Firefox) and they edit the documents they download using FLOSS alternative. This was not a planned implementation (like yours), it was a necessity due to hardware limitations and they have never complained. Generally students are eager to learn and gain skills without the skills being specific to a particular brand and FLOSS IS A GIFT to them. Xolani I am totally in support of your project and can you keep the list posted on the developments? I would like to see this take-off and if I can help just let me know and I will be happy to assist. I am sure this will be a success. When do you think this project will be ready for take-off?
