I aquired a damaged iBook a while back and if I can sort out an LCD panel for it I intend to put PPC ubuntu on. I'll document how it goes, and the solution to any issues as I find them for the benefit of others.

The last PPC I put Ubuntu on was quite a few years back and although it took a bit of figuring out to make it work, I was very happy with the results. Full writeup is here; http://wlug.org.nz/UbuntuOnOldWorldPPC
And a photo of that G3 beige Mac running kubuntu is at http://openphoto.net/gallery/image.html?image_id=8815

Hi!

Taking your message within the context of your former post and installs
problems I can sympathize. I too, have a PPC Macbook and it's running
Linux. There were a few quirks during the installation, notably with the
multimedia side of the machine.

Now what SFD is focusing on, is about reaching out to non-users of Free
Software, and that can start with running FOSS applications on their
proprietary OS. So in some ways we should be explaining what is Software
Freedom and why it matters, then wait for our audience to ask us what to
do next (rather than "forcing" them to a most likely not successful
GNU/Linux adventure).

I believe a migration path should be as smooth as possible and people
should do it because they understand and care, not because it's hype or
gratis.

I'm just wondering what are doing the 2-300 team leaders of last year?
Have they already forgotten about Software Freedom, did they celebrate
because of the free Sun or SFD stuff (and then what good is it to send
stuff to people who only care when they are freebies)?

I have a lot of questions on my mind and I'd like to hear what people think.

Thanks.

Fred
