One of the biggest reasons I hear from people against switching to Linux is the lack of games, so we had a networked Battle for Wesnoth tournament - which the gamers *loved*. The impact was somewhat diminished when I could give them a windows copy to take home, but meh, it's still FOSS.
When people talk about 'games' on Linux, I find they usually mean FPS-games. Like temulous, nexuiz, enemy territory. There are also a few racing games. VDrift looks like it would be pretty good with a racing wheel. I haven't managed to play at all well with just the keyboard. I also recommend Wesnoth. And lincity-ng is pretty good. The kids really love Supertux, Pingus, planetpenguin racer, Frets On Fire. And when I get a dance mat I'm fairly sure they'll go mad about Stepmania.
