Dear all,
While team packs are being packed and we're running after the few team
leaders who provided us a PO Box instead of a street address we're also
continuing improving our web infrastructure, providing better features
or translations. A few members of our community have provided a lot of
help this year and have helped us to achieve things we've been longing
for years.
One thing which has been discussed since end of last year was
refactoring of the SFD Planet (previously on
http://planet.softwarefreedomday.org) and providing additional languages.
After fighting with the technical details and getting bits of
translations here and there we are not very please to announce that the
planet is fully integrate into our main website and that the language
switcher at the top of the page allows to go from one planet to another
one automatically.
It also saves us a lot of work in maintenance as those pages template
used to be manually generated.
So to every SFD team leader out there, if you do have a blog and are not
on SFD planet of your language please do send us your feed, an
hackertgotchi or a photo of yourself (we'll do the hackergotchi for you).
Also note that in order to start a new language we need at least 3 feeds
and a bit of translation help.
Thank you and happy preparation!
Fred
ps: oh and yes, the planet link is now :

Hi again!
As we clearly stated at the registration opening only the first 200
teams registered before August 2nd would get a team pack (this is a
financial and logistic limit). It turns out we had about an extra 23
teams who registered before the deadline.
So for those teams who registered passed the 200 mark but still were
able to provide an address we are very happy to announce that Google has
provided us with extra funding and we'll be able to ship the team
supplies for you too!
I'm personally very excited by the goodies this year. Thanks to the
marketing team feedback we have iron-transfer stickers to make your own
T-Shirts. It's a lot lighter and cheaper and allows us to provide
somehow 'more t-shirts' for everybody. The design also matches our new
website design and uses the new logo made by Jeff Lim, and we love it.
I did my own t-shirt and I was so happy to wear it. One thing the SFI
board was afraid of with iron-transfer technology was the quality. Well
I think we managed very well on that end.
So a big thank you to Google, a big thank you to you for making SFD
happen every year and Happy SFD.
Please do help us to spread the word, use our banners here
http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/Promote , blog, microblog, etc .
We'll have a countdown counter up soon as well.
Fred
ps: goodies will start shipping early next week.
