Dear all,
I have started to work on the wiki structure for 2011 and considering
the issues we had last year with the American continent we are
orientating ourselves towards a different split.
We will keep the same sub-structure of Continent/Country/City/Team or
sometimes Continent/Region/Country/City/Team . This year we will be
stricter on the City/Team as we had some city page hijack in 2010 where
some team took the whole page and other teams in the same area had
issues being listed. Yes for small areas it lengthen the URL but we need
to be fair to all teams.
We used 2010/Asia/Singapore last year for the Singapore page. It is OK
to use both country and city name to match the pattern you describe. For
example:
2011/Asia/Singapore/Singapore
We will keep the "URL shortener service" as well (need to be arranged
for 2011).
The 2011 home page can be found here:

No country page has been added yet, and I also need to adapt all the
templates which Thilo did last year. Subdivisions chosen is available
here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americas#Terminology - 3rd one from
the top.
I would propose the 2nd from the top, as there is less ambiguity. In the
third, there are entries that say something like, "May be included in..."
As well, USA usage is to say "Central America" for the nations of the
isthmus connecting the two continents. When we say "Middle America" we
are referring to middle class culture, values, politics and economic
class. In the USA, using this term for a geographic division is going to
cause wide-spread confusion.
I have read what you've written below. My preference is based on my
belief that directories are cheap, confusion is expensive. Also, it is
based on USA usage. Perhaps some of the other participants from outside
the USA can provide some insight as to how the division of the Americas
is handled elsewhere?
