• We've corresponded to one of the local computer-related magazines and they're going to publish a pointer to our event!
Today, I saw the pointer in the magazine. […]
• We've agreed that we'll have about 30 copies of our event's poster or so, to be placed at all the local universities, and probably some schools. (The poster design is still in progress. Should be ready next Monday.)
• We're also going to have some small (10 cm × 7.5 cm = 4" × 3" or so) give-aways pointing to our event. (Still in progress.)
The posters and the reminders are printed, but some are still on the shelf.
What we've not.
• In order to estimate the number of participants and to know the interests of the public better, we've started a (completely optional) registration. Unfortunately, there weren't too much people registered so far.
That sounds really cool. From my experience posters and flyers in university really attracts people the day of the event. I've never thought of doing online registration but you're right that it's always a real challenge to get an estimation of the crowd before hand.
Based on the last year's experience, we expect around 50 participants or so. However, we've «better» press coverage this year, so I'd not be surprised with higher numbers. However, we still need to have some «meter» of the public interests.
Nice initiative for the mailing list. Is it just for your event, or could it be used for all Russian (i'am assuming it's in Russian language) teams?
As the list is currently low-traffic, I've nothing against using it for any SFD-related discussions in Russian. However, please note that all the software is maintained solely by yours truly, and I don't consider myself a reliable service.
Else we could probably set up a Russian mailing list on SFD servers,
This looks like a better solution.
but we would need someone to moderate and stimulate it.
Depending on the traffic volume, I may be able to moderate it, though I'd prefer not to do it alone.
I've seen a few teams from Russian but not all of them registered at http://cgi.softwarefreedomday.org/register.html and therefore they don't get to have a marker on the SFD map.
BTW, is there a way to update the marker location? It was set to the then-anticipated «gathering point», and it was later shifted some 50 meters or so. (There will be all the relevant pointers at both places, anyway.) Or, could someone provide me a quick guide on how to add an OSM-based map to our site (or wiki page)?
