Hi all,
Our Ubuntu CDs have arrived in our country but our team doesn't have it yet. The courier DHL is holding on to the package and wants to impose an import duty tax of 3500 Philippine pesos (~78 USD) on the 130 Ubuntu CDs. I've explained to their representative about other teams from around the wrold receiving the same package with no such import duties as those items are for educational/promotional as such it has no commercial value and will not be sold to anyone here. However, she insisted that since our team is based on a University, we should get a letter from the University to resolve this issue of these items being for educational and promotional purposes only.
Another workaround, she mentioned is to cite similar shipments by DHL that didn't ask for import duty. So if you're one of those teams, could you please provide us here the tracking numbers for your Ubuntu CDs' package?
It passed the same thing in Argentina. For example, in Buenos Aires, DHL Air Waybill: 6222972582. He entered like Gift, CD - Books, with declared value of 11 Eurus in origin. With tax +5 times the value declared in origin. Before numerous questions to DHL (1), it was consulted to origin. Non ddp and it Returns to origin. (*) Of having entered as educational material he would not pay, in theory. -- Regards, Peter.
