Definitely a great advice and I thank you for reminding everyone.
People will be looking for "events nearby" and if they can't find the
basic details such as:
- The date and time
- The place (maybe add a map, directions, a photo of the entrance
door,...)
- An idea of the program for the day
they might just not come and visit your event. So not only the press
needs this kind of details but the people you want to be talking to as
well.
@Cat: there is also this page
http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/Marketing/SitePosting which lists
(team leaders usually) submissions to sites, blogs and mailing lists.
But that's about it.
As a side note we should be announcing the 2009 Best Event competition
results on Monday and the prizes for 2009 and 2010. We've worked hard
to find something special for those special teams making an outstanding
performance for Software Freedom Day and think you'll be happy to
discover what we've come up with this year.
So team leaders and members, please do spend the necessary time to
document your event
- before: on your team wiki page and your own site if you have one
- during: take photos, videos, blog, invite the press, etc
- and after: make wonderful reports that will help you, your team
and Free Software celebration.
Thank you.

Hi everyone,
Please please update wiki pages with event details and a contact person.
I am going to try over the next week to get our National 24hr
broadcaster ABC24 to do a story about teams all over the world. But so
many registered teams on the map have NO details on their page. And
there's no way of knowing what is actually happening.
So Please! I beg you, put the basic details of your event on your wiki
page, and an email address or phone number of a contact person. Add a
link to your own page if you have one.
It's a global event. We deserve global media coverage, but it's very
very hard to get that if the details can't be found.
Also - if you do have coverage - remember to update this year's Press
page. We have had great coverage in past year's but not so much this
year!

Or is there another page somewhere that I am missing?
