Hi All, Is there any speculation on when Dillo will be frame ready? I would love to use Dillo for Squirrelmail. Thanks, -- ~~~Pete~~~ http://milneweb.com http://nomorevirus.com
I don't recall where I read it, but I did see somewhere in the project documentation that there is no intention of supporting frames now or ever (did I misread?) - I recall the text citing that frames are deprecated and will not be implemented. What I'm interested to find out is who declared them deprecated? I just glanced at W3C's HTML 4.01 spec and it goes into full detail on frames implementation without mentioning the "D" word. I'm having a hard time understanding the reasoning behind a motion to make frames a thing of the past so quickly, especially in the context of a "lightweight" browser which has no animated graphics, Java applet or JavaScript support, any one of which might be an adequate substitute for the functionality which frames provides. It seems to me there are plenty of applications for all of these features and that Dillo is mildly handicapped to not support any of them. Complex undertakings though, I know - not complaining, just observing/conversating ;-) - Sean Kelly - skelly@argoentgroup.com -----Original Message----- From: dillo-dev-admin@auriga.wearlab.de [mailto:dillo-dev-admin@auriga.wearlab.de] On Behalf Of Peter Milne Sent: Wednesday, July 23, 2003 6:16 PM To: dillo-dev@auriga.wearlab.de Subject: [Dillo-dev] Frames Hi All, Is there any speculation on when Dillo will be frame ready? [... snip ...] Err... Where again did you see this written? Please point _exact_ source before making blatant assumptions or accusations. I've been following Dillo's development for more than 2 years now, and have never seen comments from any of the developers stating anything to the effect the frames are "deprecated" or not desired. Please make efforts in verifying facts before spreading unfounded information around... ok? regards, -- Livio B. Soares
Oops! I had made a mental note of lack of support for frames both in the project README and on the sourceforge.net project home and somehow cross-connected those notes with some other comment about some obscure tag being obsolete. I'm glad that frames are not ousted and may be able to spend some time doing some development on that front myself. Sorry for the confusion! - Sean -----Original Message----- From: dillo-dev-admin@auriga.wearlab.de [mailto:dillo-dev-admin@auriga.wearlab.de] On Behalf Of Livio Baldini Soares Sent: Wednesday, July 23, 2003 7:38 PM To: Sean Kelly Cc: dillo-dev@auriga.wearlab.de Subject: Re: [Dillo-dev] Frames Sean Kelly writes:

Check out Frank's tab-support patches - as he says, "The patch does not just give Dillo tab functionality, it also provides a framework for implementing frames (no pun intended) by separating 'document' from 'interface' code." Kelson Vibber www.hyperborea.org

Actually, ummmm.....I really have no use for frames myself except for the fact Squirrelmail so happens to use them. I personally dont create frame sites nor can I remember the last time I saw one. Whether frames disappear from WC3's specs or not, I shall still sleep well. Thanks for pointing this out to me. -- ~~~Pete~~~ http://milneweb.com http://nomorevirus.com

I don't recall hearing this from any of the major Dillo developers. You may be thinking of the discussions on how to populate the Link Toolbar (or Site Navigation Bar, depending on what week it is) for Mozilla. One of the controversies was about how to handle the situation in which two pages in a frameset have conflicting <link> tags. Someone made a similar remark in that discussion. -- Kelson Vibber www.hyperborea.org
