Some of us don't have the bandwidth to make automatically pre-loading all links desireable. For exampke, I'm connected to the web with a 33.6K dial- up modem. Another, possible concern with pre-loading is for hand=held devices that have pay-per-minute Internet connections. I would guess that folks with that kind of connection would only want to download the pages they specifically choose. But if I had an unlimited-access, high-speed Internet connection I can see how automatically loading all links on a page into background pages would be nifty.
